What is the Number One Disease that Plagues Our Children?

If you guessed Obesity, you are right. According to research, in three decades the number of overweight children in the United States has more than doubled. Along with this has come a dramatic rise in type 2 dibetes. In fact, 85% of American children who developed this disease were overweight or obese at the time of diagnosis.
Furthermore, in 1990 only 4% of children were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and now the average is 20% it varies from 8%-45% depending on the age group.
How can we change this? Are not parents and care givers in the best position to improve these statistics? I believe we can make a significant difference just by making some minor adjustments. One thing we can do is get familiar with reading labels.

Also, if we focus on adding more fresh whole foods rather than just focusing on taking away the all wrong foods, we can slowly begin to change our taste buds. We can little by little remove the food that isn't providing any healthy nutrients.
You know the saying "Out of sight out of mind," can really help when the processed foods aren't around. Having tasty and healthy alternatives around will be beneficial and adventurous.
Getting older kids involved with the shopping for healthy food can be a valuable learning time together. Remember the closest we can get food from the way it grew in the ground, and simpler the ingrediencies is the best!
We can look up a
teach our kids how to make simple soups or healthy casseroles that can go a long way on the budget. When my children got older, they each took a day to cook the dinner meal and they really liked it. When they took part in creating the menu and shopping it meant more to them.
